Truex Jr., Man of the Week
5/1/05… The name on the banner this week is Martin Truex Jr. There's no doubt in my mind that the name deserves to be where it is, he certainly earned it. His second win of the season, and second consecutive win at Talladega, has catapulted him closer the top of the pecking order.
After 10 of 35 races, Truex has three top five and four top ten finishes, and is now listed as fourth in driver's points. Last season at this juncture, he had three wins, five top five finishes, six top ten finishes, and was leading the driver's point's standings.
The top ten finishers are listed below with their starting position in parenthesis:
- Martin Truex Jr., #8 Chevy (4)
- Jon Wood*, #47 Ford (31)
- David Stremme, #14 Dodge (30)
- Ashton Lewis, #25 Ford (24)
- Kerry Earnhardt, #198 Chevy (34)
- Randy LaJoie, # 34 Chevy (37)
- Justin Labonte, #44 Chevy (10)
- Jason Keller, #35 Ford (32)
- Brent Sherman*, #58 Dodge (26)
- Kertus Davis*, #0 Chevy (25)

Although rookie point's leader Carl Edwards (#60 Ford) took a huge hit in points this week at Talladega, he's still leading the pecking order with 147 points over Clint Bowyer (#2 Chevy), who moved up one spot to take second place. Rookie Reed Sorenson (#41 Dodge) dropped back one spot to third listed with a -153, followed by Truex Jr. (#8 Chevy) who moved up one spot to fourth listed with a -222. Ashton Lewis (#25 Ford) moved up two spots to round out the top five with a -275.
David Stremme's strong showing in the #14 Dodge for the US Navy and Fitz/Bradshaw Racing, moved him up four spots to sixth listed now with a -328. Kevin Harvick's short absence from Busch Series competition lowered his point's standing, but be managed to come back up one spot to seventh this week, listed now with a -333. Rookie Denny Hamlin (#20 Chevy) is now listed in eighth after dropping down two spots, while ninth place rookie Jon Wood (#47 Ford) moved up two spots (-335) after finishing second at Talladega. Kenny Wallace (#22 Ford) had some really bad luck at the big track, and dropped six spots this week to round out the top ten with a -336.
